Betty Donelly's gear used for the four demo songs
INSTRUMENTS A Schecter ULTRACURE guitar, designed by THE CURE's Robert Smith was used in three out of the four songs ... IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH's rhythm guitar was played on a FENDER Stratocaster USA custom made, which features a grey body and black metal plates and black custom buttons and black tone switch .. A 'made in Japan' Fender Jazzbass Special from the seventies, is used for all of Betty Donelly's recordings ... For singing purposes as well as picking up the sounds of speaker cabinets, Betty had no other choice until now than to go with a Shure SM 58 stage microphone ... but just recently she purchased a Shure SM 57 so the sound of amplifiers will hopefully be much better in future recordings. The rhythm guitar on IN THE BEGIN was recorded with Betty's electro-acoustic STAGG guitar with a matching mini 20 WATTS amp with inputs for guitar (jack) and microphone (XLR) ... Other amps include Betty's old Fender Deluxe 112 Plus guitar cabinet and a STAGG 400 WATTS CA 100B/115 bass amp model it's interesting to look into the difference between the recording of IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH, which was recorded using direct input of all instruments into the mixer console, as oppsosed to all other songs where the sound went through amps and got miked via my Shure SM 58 microphone. MIXER and SOUNDCARD HARDWARE Betty Donelly has been using her mini mixing console since the days of her former band THE ELEPHANTS ... it's a FOSTEX X-26 Cassette Multitracker from the early nieties and it serves as an interface between the instruments' JACK cables and the Creative Soundblaster Audigy soundcard. SOFTWARE Betty Donelly seems very pleased with Kristal Audio Engine as her audio sequencer (the program that actually records the audio parts on her computer) ... Only for her latest single, IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH did Betty Donelly make use of a wave editor for overall mastering and equalising .. her preferred one is NCH Software's WAVEPAD EDITOR
